The free route
Audio MIDI Setup can pair the displays, but selecting the aggregate disables macOS’s global volume controls—an impractical trade-off for daily use.
Open Audio MIDI Setup, click the + button, choose Create Aggregate Device, and tick both Studio Displays.
Open Configure Speakers, choose Stereo, and map each display to its side of the desk.
Pick the new device in Sound settings so every app plays through both displays.
Re-check the setup when a display reconnects, and adjust loudness with per-device sliders—the keyboard and menu bar volume controls are disabled.

Nearfield vs StereoFuse
Nearfield creates a system-wide stereo pair without ever requesting microphone access. It can also route selected apps to the left display, right display, or full pair. StereoFuse’s own setup guide requires microphone access for its routing daemon.

A purpose-built app is the shortest route. Nearfield and StereoFuse both detect two Studio Displays, assign a left and right side, and create one system-wide output with keyboard volume control. Nearfield supports macOS 14 and later; StereoFuse currently requires macOS 26 or later.
Yes, but it is a manual setup. An Aggregate Device can combine the displays, and Configure Speakers can assign the left and right channels. Selecting that aggregate as the output disables macOS global volume control, so the keyboard and menu bar volume controls are unavailable.
